What Was Approved
Food Standards Australia New Zealand approved Application A1307 on April 30, 2025 to permit milk fat globule membrane-enriched whey protein concentrate as a nutritive substance in infant formula products.
FSANZ's approval report says ministers were notified on May 14, 2025 and the variation was gazetted on July 22, 2025.
What It Means Commercially
Arla Foods Ingredients said the decision makes Lacprodan MFGM-10 its first early-life nutrition product approved by Australian authorities and the only MFGM ingredient approved for infant products in Australia for at least 15 months.
The company also noted that the ingredient can be labeled in Australia as milk fat globule membrane-enriched whey protein concentrate, while New Zealand opted out of the joint infant formula standard.
Alıcı Paketi
For phospholipid and MFGM buyers, the decision is a concrete regulatory signal that complex milk-lipid ingredients are gaining clearer market pathways in infant formula.
The next practical questions are source exclusivity, specification fit, claim discipline, and whether a formulation plan depends on Australia alone or a broader ANZ strategy.
